No. 10. No. 75155. A great number of educational institutions are located in Athens, and it is no wonder that it is called the Classic City of the South. It is primarily a city of beautiful homes. More beautiful homes can be seen here than any other city of its size in the South. 115 East Hancock Ave. The US Courthouse and Post Office was built on the site of a private home later used by several fraternities and it opened to the pubic on Sept. 3, 1942. Business and professional men conducted an inspection tour on that day. Women were allowed to inspect the building the next day. It continues to be used a a court house and post office. Print reads, "Savannah is rich in historical lore, is a city of 92,000 people and is known for its beautiful buildings, semi-tropical verdure, 24 municipal parks and 100 mile boulevard chain, nine suburban resorts, golf and outdoor sports, modern hotels and varied amusements. The climate is ideal, the city is both winter and summer resort, and the Atlantic Ocean contributes surf bathing unexcelled in the South, it is indeed "Savannah, the Southern Key to Land and Sea.". The structure, originally designated as the U.S. Post Office and Courthouse, was later renamed the Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse. By July 30 1899, all departments of the post office were in the new government building. Court House to Right. No. NT-1. No. E-6483. Thomasville, situated on a ridge 273 feet above sea level, in southwest Georgia is only 50 miles from the Gulf of Mexico. This city enjoys the distinction of being an original winter and health resort, as in the early 1880's many people started coming here for recreation and health. The City of Roses slogan is given due to many streets being bordered with roses. It was constructed in 1915 in the Beaux-Arts style and housed the Post Office until 1962, then it became the public library. The Court house is pictured and it was built in 1858 and is the Thomas County Courthouse. It is located on North Broad Street. The U.S. District Court judges for the Middle District of GA stopped holding federal court and bankruptcy hearings there in 2007 due to the deterioration of the federal courthouse. This imposing structure served as city hall for nearly twenty years. It was so solidly built that the first company hired to raze it actually went out of business before completing the job. One of the most pretentious Post Office Buildings in the United States. Floor space totals more than 5 acres and will have some 200 Federal office units. Located next to the Spring Street Terminal, mail was transferred by a railroad network. It later became a Federal office building although never an "official" courthouse.  The Court of Appeals relocated to this location from March 20, 1985, until March 16, 1987, for renovations.
