Description

Post card of Post Office in Mobile, Ala. No. 22. No. 17691. U. S. Court House and Custom House at 113 St. Joseph Street. This is Mobile's most handsome building; it occupies a space of 116 ft. x 160 feet. The construction work was begun August, 1914, and completed September, 1916. The building is two stories high and fireproof, the exterior is Alabama white marble, while the screen work, boxes, etc. are bronze. There are very elaborate decorations throughout the building, the gold leaf decorations alone costing approximately $2,500. The heating system is the latest, thermostat controlled. The approximate cost of site, building, equipment and furnishings is $425,000. Copyright by Overbey's Studio, Mobile, Ala.
