Description

One post card featuring the Post Office and Custom House in Key West, Florida. No. A-99773. Built as a post office, custom house, courthouse, and lighthouse quarters. The U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida met here until 1932 when the property was transferred to the US Navy. After the Navy declared it surplus, it lay abandoned for nearly twenty years. It was purchased by the State of Florida in 1991 and leased to the Key West Art & Historical Society. It was entered on the National Register of Historic Places on Sep. 20, 1973.
